Avoid a car accident is ideal, and for that, we must pay attention to all signs, to other drivers and be in the best physical and mental state that allows us to pay attention to all unforeseen that may arise.

However, these unforeseen events happen, and as a consequence, traffic accidents too.

Factors such as driving sleep and many others can cause us to lose control of our vehicle or that we are victims of an accident caused by another car.

Advice on how to act in case of suffering a traffic accident

If we witness a traffic accident, we must know how to respond. The DGT is evident in its advice and tells us to remember three fundamental steps that we cannot forget if we recognize the acronym PAS:

To protect

Warn

Help

It is essential that we do it that way and in that order, to avoid significant problems such as possible collisions or new collisions.

TO PROTECT

The first thing we must do is self-protect, and for that, we will have to try to park our car in the best place and before leaving it,  put on the reflective vest.

Then we must turn on the emergency or position lights and signal the area of the accident by placing the pre-signaling triangles as indicated in the regulations.

WARN

Then we must call the emergency services from our phone, or in your case through the SOS posts that we can find along the roads.

When we call 112 we will have to provide all the necessary information so they can help us in the best way possible:

Facilitate the exact location or as accurate as possible of the place where the accident occurred: the kilometric point, the road, … otherwise, a unique venue for us to locate.

Indicate the number of injured persons and all the information we can give to accompany, for example, if they are aware or not, if there are illnesses, etc.

Some vehicles affected by the accident and its characteristics, whether they are motorcycles or cars, trucks, SUVs, etc.

HELP

You must be clear that some things should never be done when an accident occurs and we will help the wounded:

Do not move the injured, or take them out of their vehicles.

If you are a motorcyclist, never remove the helmet.

Do not transfer the wounded on your own to the hospital or emergency room.

Never give him drinks, food or of course, medicines.

Do not leave the area until the emergency services instruct you.
